Laguna : A Green Staycation at Seda Nuvali

Seda Nuvali Green Hotel

It is an invitation that one just can't resist. That is, spending a weekend with travel blogger friends in a hotel designed to provide balance between natural and man-made and over sumptuous and delectable food that keep our tummies in check while we narrate our memorable travel stories. And as we share our past travels, we gladly accept one more experience to tell our friends - our staycation at Seda Nuvali.

Vibrant Hotel Lobby

In whichever location it opens, the surrounding community is always part of the attraction of any hotel property bearing the Ayala Land Inc.-owned Seda brand. This is especially true for Seda Nuvali, which opened in March. It is the fourth hotel in the country bearing the name of Seda, a brand established by ALI subsidiary AyalaLand Hotels and Resort Corp. (AHRC).

Elegant Places - Dining, Function, Gym, Lobby

The 150-room hotel with gardens that open up to a scenic four-hectare lake is the new showcase of the close to 2,300-hectare Nuvali growth center which spans the municipalities of Sta. Rosa, Calamba and Cabuyao, all in Laguna. Composed of distinct residential, commercial, office and recreational spaces, the self-contained Nuvali has been envisioned and masterplanned to be an “environmentally, economically and socially sustainable” city. Its founders have designed it to allow “both people and nature to thrive harmoniously” even after full build up.

Cozy De Luxe Room

Along with a 17-kilometer-long buffer green and forest zone for bird watching and other nature activities, the manmade lake-- which is also a facility for catching wastewater and recycling it, is just one of Nuvali’s many green features. Unsurprisingly, Seda Nuvali hotel is the first in the Seda collection of mostly business hotels to integrate the lake into its design—making it the rare hotel offering nature views from almost every room. At the same time, the hotel is conveniently located near malls, offices and the booming industrial sites of Sta. Rosa, Laguna.

Holiday Table with a View

Seda Nuvali hotel’s performance since March confirms that it is a property long awaited by the businesses, groups and other individuals in the Nuvali community. Multinational companies that have industrial facilities in neighboring areas as well as Business Process Outsourcing firms with offices close by have regularly been booking employees and guests at the hotel. During weekends, individuals, groups and families attending Nuvali runs and triathlons and wakeboarding events keep occupancy levels higher than expected. Many mostly from Metro Manila simply come for biking opportunities as well as outlet shopping.

Spa Time

General manager Jeffrey Enriquez enthuses that Seda Nuvali’s restaurant, Misto, has been doing well since it opened. Misto’s performance is further helped by the fact that Seda Nuvali is the first hotel in the area to have a full range of amenities including a game room, children’s playroom and even an executive floors with access to the Club lounge and its exclusive privileges including complimentary breakfast, afternoon refreshments, and cocktails daily. The larger Premier Rooms also offer use of the Club Lounge and its accompanying benefits.

Classic Pamintuan Chair

Enriquez also points out that for some, Seda Nuvali and all the nearby outdoor activities have become an alternative to Tagaytay. It is likewise being used by companies in conjunction with the team building facilities of Camp N deeper inside Nuvali as a venue for drilling company values into employees and executives. In line with Nuvali’s aim to be a dynamic growth center that espouses eco-friendly living, Seda Nuvali was deliberately constructed to be a balance between “the natural and man-made, the indoors and outdoors, and also that which is Filipino and that which is world-class,” says Enriquez.

Nuvali Lake - View from my Room

Each public and guest room space is strategically positioned to provide unobstructed sightlines to the best views of the Nuvali Lake, the green fields as well as distant Mount Makiling and other natural elements. At the same time, guests enjoy free wifi, an E-Lounge equipped with Apple computers and in the guest rooms, a media panel with HDMI, USB and audio visual connectivity in addition to an IDD phone with ipod dock. Call it the best of manmade facilities.

Japanese Feast at Misto Cafe

Moreover, the quietly modern design of the building facade does not detract from but compliments its natural surroundings. Other architectural elements like stone cladding and lattice work were used in both the hotel interior and exterior to provide a seamless transition between both spaces. Enriquez discloses: “Seda Nuvali’s design objective was to provide the conveniences of urban living in a relaxing, resort-like environment very close to nature.”

Salads and Sweets

On top of these conveniences, Seda Nuvali managers have been trained to offer genuine Filipino hospitality enhanced by the highly-personalized Customer “Gold” Service standards set by the American Hotel and Lodging Educational Institute. Seda is the first hotel brand in Asia to be certified in the program.

Buffet Fit for a King

Seda Nuvali’s other facilities include meeting venues for up to 100 persons, a gym, and lakeside swimming pools. Before the end of the year, it will also launch Straight Up roof deck bar offering al fresco spaces and stunning views of the surrounding countryside.

Seda Nuvali is LEED-registered and working towards Silver Certification. LEED, or Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design, is a green building certification program that recognizes best-in class building strategies and practices. One such practice, for instance, is to orient a building’s layout to avoid direct sun exposure. Thus, Seda Nuvali has a North-South orientation. The hotel is also registered with BERDE, the Philippines’ equivalent of LEED.
