It was perfect timing. Although my intention was just to take few snaps of the place, the mass was just about to start so I decided to attend the mass instead. What amazed me most in this church is the painted ceiling of flowers, angels and various images of the Virgin Mary. It felt rustic and modern at the same time.The stone marker at the front of the church reads, "The early church dedicated to Nuestra Senora De Pena de Francia was built about 1711 through the generosity of the Rev. Miguel de Covarrubias as a vow-offering for blessings he received in his youth. The present church was built about 1750 by Bishop Isidoro de Arevalo and repaired and improved in 1876-1877 by Bishop Francisco Gainza. The Image was solemnly crowned by the Rt. Rev. Guillermo Piani on September 20, 1924."
Because of the on-going mass, I was not able to take some shots of the ceilings and the altar. But I was able to roam around the church's vicinity including the cemetery at the back of the church. Here are some pics:

oohh, I visited this place too last 2008. Yan din ba (?) yung may colorful dome?
I remember the same thing happened to me before at the Carmel Mission. I was only there to photograph the place but the mass was starting so we ended up hearing the mass.
Yeah, I have to agree with kuya Gill. It looks more like a mansion during the Spanish times. ^^
Nope ate chyng, if my memory serves me right. This is not the church that has a dome. You're referring to the Basilica.

parang bago na luma yung chucrch. anu ba sinasabi ko, I know it's old but renovated---in agood way. meron kasing ang gara ng kinalabasan after ng renovation e.
uwa gamit mo dito? maganda tong simbahan na to. not the usual na pahaba. nung pumunta kami diyan umulan nga lang.
The church looked so beautiful. The architectural designs on the building is so unique for a church. Very impressive.

By not taking photos,you really showed respect for the Holy Mass. Unlike here at St. Patrick's Cathedral in NY, tourists go in & out during a mass taking snapshots!
