Wandering Around Cebu City

The Queen City of the South is undoubtedly the busiest City outside Manila. Cebu to Visayas is what Manila is to Luzon. The growth and urbanization is non-stop. Tall buildings, malls and business centers abound. Traffic and fast-paced life is also evident.

But amidst its buzzling phase, one can still find historical and interesting place in the city. Afterall, this City is known as the oldest city in the Philippines. Spanish influence in the city is evident in Fort San Pedro and Magellan's Cross. Fine architecture can be seen in the Provincial Capitol Building and the new Heritage of Cebu Monument. And every January, the Basilica Minore del Santo Nino is the center of celebrations. Of course, walking in Colon Street in downtown Cebu will give you a bragging right that you have walked in the oldest street in the Philippines, although without that nostalgic feel.

Here are some shots I have taken while I was wandering around Cebu City:

Arched Pathway Leading to Fort San Pedro

Magellan's Cross

There's no stopping Cebu from going after the heels of Manila in terms of development. What I'm hoping is they keep the historic part really historic.

One of the nicest things about Cebu is that it's a combo of urban and rural life. I've never been to Fort San Pedro.

Cebu got the ideal scenario of having the nice beaches just near to the business districts, there's no need to travel like amount of kilometers to go the beach after work. Mactan Island has lots of it.

Cebu is very close to my heart--i have great friends there. NO dull moment in Cebu, there's plenty to do and sights to see. Lounging the day away, loaf at the beach, or having a massage are my favorite activities in Cebu.:p

To be honest--Im not a very big fan when we speak of economic activity. I barely saw flyovers in the city---which is the reason why traffic congestion is a big headache.....

thanks to the AYALA's---the business district is slowly expanding and is giving CEBU the promise of a bright future.

Lawstude, I love that first photo! The angle, the composition and the colors are all wonderful. You gave that old canon a quiet beauty! I also really like the shot of the Basilica Del Santa Nino with it's old architecture and gray walls contrasted by the vibrant colors of the people in the street. A perfect harmony of past and present!
