The Windmills of Bangui Bay (and a Tag)

On my way to the the Northern Paradise of Pagudpud, I have seen these amazing structures on the left side of the road in the Municipality of Bangui. These windmills seemed like they were planted on the sea so I stopped on the road side and marvel at these amazing structures. Not contented with what I saw on the viewing deck at the road side, I turned around and proceeded to the Bangui Bay (roughly 10 minutes from the roadside) to have a closer look at these giants.

Often referred to as The Magnificent White Giant of Bangui, these 15 windmills are not planted on the sea but on the shore. They are arranged in a single row spaced 326 meters apart. The windmills height is 70 meters and each blade is 41 meters long.

Although I would have love to take photos of these windmills on a clear sky, unfortunately, it was raining that afternoon and there were build-up of dark clouds above. Nevertheless, I am glad that the gloomy weather that afternoon added a dramatic effect on these shots taken at the bay.

Update:

Let me just play this because I promised the tagger to do so. I was tagged by Kitem from France who owns one of the best gardens I have seen and displayed on her blog.

The Rules:

1. Link to your tagger and post these rules on your blog.
2. Share 7 facts about yourself on your blog, some random, some weird.
3. Tag 7 people at the end of your post by leaving their names as well as links to their blogs.
4. Let them know they are tagged by leaving a comment on their blog.

Here it goes:

1. I am thirty-something (lower half) and have the same birthday as Mama Mary;

2. I used to be so thin when I was younger but now my BMI says I am overweight;

3. I am afraid of spiders, scorpions and cockroaches that I have to kill them at first sight (my bad) because if I missed, I would freak out at the thought that they would have their revenge on me;

4. I have a toy dog Dilbert(Jap Spitz-Shih Tzu mixed breed), a talking bird Nichael (a mynah), and a dragon fin I had for almost eight years now. I used to have another dog, Enzo (a labrador retriever) but he died of exhaustion while on a loan to a friend who used him as a stud to her two lady labradors. I thought of suing her but the taught that Enzo died a happy dog made me think twice;

5. I used to have odd jobs like vending cigarette, baby-sitting, selling candies as well as doing the homework and research work of my schoolmates for a fee;

6. My longest relationship was for almost seven years while my shortest was seven days and yes, I am still single and would probably be single for the rest of my life (insert canned witch laughter here);

7. And finally... I love traveling and blogging to the point of trifling some of my work. So, I might be fired soon. But I don't care. Life is short.

The Rules said I have to tag 7 bloggers so I am tagging the following bloggers whom I am exchanging comments recently hoping that they play this so we could know them better:

1. Vanny
2. The Dong
3. Luna Miranda
4. Dra. Rio
5. Redlan
6. Eloiski
7. Madbong

Next stop... PAGUDPUD!!!

It's superb friend.... It's really amazing to see that first one. First one is really nice. Totally how many windmills are there? Does it occupy the full sea shore side?

> Vanny said...

waaaah. sama mo naman ako.. haha. i never been in pagudpud! pity me. :(

Lawstude said...

@ josh of arabia - thank bro. bangui is about 30 minutes from pagudpud but you can also see this windmills at the beach of pagudpud.

Lawstude said...

@ evlahos - thank you. i also like the first pic amongst my shots there.

Lawstude said...

Lawstude said...

@ cedeux - salamat doc.

Lawstude said...

@ selerines - there are fifteen windmills that almost occupy the entire shore.

Lawstude said...

@ vanny - ok lang yun, marami pa time, ako din marami pa di napupuntahan eh. one at a time lang.

R-yo said...

these i really have to see. ilocos is now on the top of my list for the homecoming visits.

kyels said...

The weather gave a very dramatic impact on the photos kuya!

By the way, any idea what the windmills are for?

Dakilang Islander said...

Uno said...

Nice shots uli.

ifoundme said...

Ash said...

Good ones! I love the first shot. Terrific mood and atmosphere

Lawstude said...

@ aryo - right panyero. ang dami mo mapupuntahan at malilibot in just three days.

Lawstude said...

@ kyels - the windmills are there to generate power for the municipality without the gas emissions that pollute the environment.

Lawstude said...

@ dakilang islander - i just hope i could do justice with pagudpud to meet your expectation.

Lawstude said...

@ uno - you got the right word - pinwheel. just a million times bigger.

Lawstude said...

@ ifoundme - hey, looking forward to the shots you'll make on your new toy.

Lawstude said...

@ ash - thanks, i really like the outcome of my shoot there. the dark skies cast an almost magical atmosphere.

redlan said...

Napa wow ako sa pic no. 1. Galing.

pagudpod, i love to see it. <----excited.

KRIS JASPER VAN DYKE said...

ang ganda ah.... esp. yung first pic...

dave said...

i agree with the rest, the first photo is really something. i'm quite by those stuff.=D

Lawstude said...

@ redlan - may kasama lang siguro swerte mga kuha ko. pero i must admit na medyo pinaglaruan ko ng konti ang lighting and hues sa computer para mas mukhang dramatic.

Lawstude said...

@ kris jasper van dyke - salamat uli.

Lawstude said...

@ dave - i guess i was lucky with that shot, the weather really contributed a lot to the dramatic effect of that shot.

Vanessa said...

I love reading tidbits about the personal life of my bloggingmates :) To have a 7-yr. relationship is a feat in itself, hehehe.

By the way, the pictures above reminds me of the movie Saving Private Ryan... I don't know why, maybe because of the dark sky.

wanderingcommuter said...

Thanks for visiting my blog. You have a lot of nice shots here of beautiful and interesting places. I have bookmarked it so I can come back again and check for more.

The row of windmills does present an impressive sight. We need more of them around the world to get away from using so much oil.

Ely said...

Lawstude said...

@ kegler - thats true, emotionally draining talaga.

i have watched that movie at maganda nga yung scene na nag-arrive sila sa shore. d-day.

Lawstude said...

@ wandering commuter - fifteen actually. that's a nice thought, if only it'll happen lols.

Lawstude said...

Lawstude said...

@ michele - thank you very much for liking the pics michelle.

Lawstude said...

@ alan - i agree. although they cost by the millions, taking care of our environment is priceless.
