Tayabo Nature Park

Tayabo Nature Park, located in Barangay Tayabo, San Jose City, Nueva Ecija is a man-made park and a haven for picnics and sight-seeing. It is a gateway to Cagayan Valley and known for its hundred-step stair leading to lamp-lit pagodas nestled on hilltops and offering a panoramic view of the Sierra Madre and the northern Nueva Ecija.

Here are some pics I have taken at the park:

Here are some bits of history and trivia about the park:

Because of its strategic location, Barangay Tayabo was a former Japanese military camp during the Second World War. It was known as Camp 4th where Japanese Troops stayed for more than 3 years.

In 1950's, the municipal mayor stilts the wilderness of Camp 4th and renamed in Municipal Park.

In 1960's, the park was renamed Diamond Park probably because during the War, Japanese Army allegedly buried diamonds within the vicinity of the park. Many gold hunters dug certain portions of the park looking for diamonds and golds but nothing precious was reportedly excavated.

Then, in 2005, the park was renamed Tayabo Nature Park to emphasize the fact that its allure lies in its Natural Beauty.

At present, a lot of work is being done by the City Government of San Jose to improve the facilities of the park. Several huts are now being constructed as well as mini-aviary and a zoo.

So, if you happen to visit Nueva Ecija and want a nature trip of fresh air and nice view, then Tayabo Nature Park is a good place to go to.

  8. @ ferdz - I have only been to Nueva Vizcaya once. Dalton Pass connects Nueva Vizcaya from Nueva Ecija and I really could not remember wether there are rivers there. Meron siguro coz we have crossed a bridge heading to Bayombong but if I remember it right, and marami doon ay mga bundok.
